Your thoughts and body posture -
Take a few moments and think about a wonderful experience you have had. Try to remember in great detail; all that happened. Imagine the dialog that took place, what you saw, what you did, and especially how you felt. Can you feel again the ‘warm fuzziest’ inside you, as you think about this beautiful moment?. Does it bring a smile to your lips?
Notice how you are breathing as you think about it, is it calm relaxed deep breaths?
What is your posture?.. Are your shoulders back, your head high, do you feel good?
The same way you can recall the feelings associated with positive outcomes, even more easily can you recall the feelings from negative experiences? For example feelings of rejection, anger, a broken heart, fear etc, can all be recalled when you think of a bad/sad situation.
Pick one now and think about the experience, does some of the old pain again start to build? As you remember in detail the situation, do you start to feel the tightness and tension returning to your body? Notice how you are breathing as you think about this awful situation, are you tense, are your shoulders slumped, is your head forward, are you breathing more quickly than normal?.. Is there anything else you can notice?
Ok, stand up, jump up and down, shake your arms and hands, purposely slow your breathing to deeper breaths and hold you head up and chest out.. The feeling will go. Let go of the thoughts and replace them with the knowledge that you are in control of how you feel.
Therefore, If you are feeling low, purposely change your Physiology, then you can change your thoughts.
Do you know, some people hang on very tightly to those sad stories, re play and re live them over and over again in their minds. If you think you know someone like this, when they are relaxed look at the shape of their mouth, is it turned up? Or is it turned down,! Study how they carry their frame, sitting, standing and walking.. If you can help them to change their Physiology you will be able to see how their mood too will change.
Try some of these:
Skipping… releasing the tension ( ok so maybe you will need to try it when no one is looking, but I promise you that you can not be sad or mad and skip!!.
Smile… and smile inside you as well.
Remember the saying.. If you smile, people will wonder what you have been up to
Or Smile and the world smiles with you..
It takes fewer muscles to smile than it does to scowl.
Shoulders back, don’t scowl.
Deep slower breaths, measured for about 20 breaths, and then breath naturally.
